How the Bitcoin ROI Calculator works

ROI compares what a position is worth today against what it cost. Because the amount of Bitcoin you hold does not change, the percentage return on your money is identical to the percentage change in price — this calculator shows both so you can sanity-check the fiat figure against the market move.

Formula

  • BTC held = Investment ÷ Entry price
  • Current value = BTC held × Current price
  • Profit = Current value − Investment
  • ROI % = (Profit ÷ Investment) × 100

Worked example

Investment $1,000
Entry price $40,000
Current price $60,000
BTC held 0.025 BTC
Current value $1,500
ROI +50.00%

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this and the profit calculator?

The profit calculator models a completed trade with a chosen exit price. This one measures an open position against the current market price, so it answers "how am I doing right now".

Why does ROI match the price change exactly?

For a single lump-sum buy with no fees, your percentage return is the same as the percentage move in price. They diverge once you add fees, recurring buys or partial sells.

Is the current price filled in automatically?

When a market data provider is configured, the current price field is pre-filled from live data and labelled with the time it was fetched. Without a provider you can type any price you like.
