Wallet
Software or hardware that stores the keys controlling your assets.
A wallet does not hold coins; the ledger does. What it holds are the private keys that authorise moves from an address. Custodial wallets keep those keys for you, which is convenient and makes the provider a point of failure. Self-custody wallets put the keys and the responsibility in your hands.
